EXPLORE IN A SAFE SPACE
ARE YOU FEELING LOST AND MISUNDERSTOOD?
It can feel exhausting when your struggles with identity, family, and mental health are misunderstood or dismissed. It’s hard to find a therapist who truly understands the layers of your experience, and recognizes the cultural and generational complexities that shape your life.
If you’re:
▸ Facing stigma around mental health in your community.
▸ Exploring your gender or sexual identity in the face of cultural expectations.
▸ Navigating family conflict or the pressure to uphold traditions.
▸ Trying to balance collectivist values with the pressures of mainstream individualism.
You’re not alone in these challenges. I’m here to offer a safe, non-judgmental space where we can explore these issues together. Whether you’re managing intergenerational tension or questioning parts of your identity, we’ll work on claiming your sense of self and creating a path toward healing that honors both your personal and cultural journey.
IT’S TIME FOR
A more balanced, purposeful, and fulfilling life.
Hi there! I’m Monica Thiagarajan
Fondly referred to by some as Dr. T
I earned a PhD in Counseling Psychology, where my dissertation explored the experiences of Asian Indian women in cross-cultural marriages. I also hold an MA in Community Counseling and a BA in Psychology. My fellowship at the Center for Victims of Torture and extensive experience in university counseling centers—including at the University of Texas at Austin—have deeply influenced my trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach to therapy.
Growing up in India and Kuwait before moving to the U.S. as an international student, I understand firsthand the complexities of balancing traditional values with Western norms. As a third culture kid who has navigated dual identities and cultural expectations, I’m deeply passionate about destigmatizing mental health in Asian and Asian American communities.
In our sessions, I take a depth-oriented approach that’s tailored to your unique cultural experiences. I draw from NARM (NeuroAffective Relational Model), mindfulness-based techniques, and relational practices to help you address issues such as acculturation stress, intergenerational conflict, and cultural identity. My style is warm and empathetic, but I’ll also offer gentle challenges when needed. Above all, our work together will move at your pace, ensuring a space that feels safe, confidential, and empowering.
If you’re ready to find clarity, healing, and balance in your life, I’d be honored to walk that journey with you.

I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna insurance. If your insurance is out of network, I can provide a Superbill—a detailed receipt of the services you've received. You can submit this to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, depending on your coverage for out-of-network providers.
I recognize that therapy can be a significant financial investment, and many psychologists do not accept insurance. I choose to accept insurance to help increase accessibility and affordability for individuals seeking support. Mental health care should not feel out of reach, especially for communities that have historically faced barriers to accessing culturally sensitive services. -
